 What Is P.E.C. About
The Peninsula Engineers Council (PEC) is an inter-society council comprised of representatives from organizations dedicated to strengthening and promoting the engineering, profession in the Peninsula area. The member organizations consist of 18 local chapters of engineering and technical societies, a local science and education foundation, and three government organizations. Information on the PEC member organizations may be found throughout this website.
•  Promote the observance of National Engineers Week   •  Select and recognize a Peninsula Engineer of the Year   •  Coordinate efforts in furthering engineering education in the schools and colleges in the area and to increase the interest of youth in the engineering profession  •  Provide a forum for the discussion of problems and activities of common interest.

The Council, was begun in 1970 by Douglas Ensor of the Virginia Society of Professional Engineers to bring the larger engineering community of the Peninsula into the recognition of National Engineers Week. The early PEC was an inter-society committee which rotated responsibility for the annual Peninsula Engineer of the Year Award Banquet among themselves. In 1988 a Constitution and By-Laws was developed to formally organize the PEC. This allowed for the creation of standing committees that could develop and implement long range plans and maintain year-to-year continuity of expanded programs. Sixteen societies co-signed the original constitution.
